Biography continued
I was also involved with musicals in the early seventies; I was in the production of Otis Skillings ‘Life’ and shortly afterwards Jimmy and Carol Owens ‘Come Together’ and the follow up ‘If My People’. It was at this time I discovered that the Bible was not just a book full of stories about Jesus, I found that it was all true and asking Jesus into my life changed how everything seemed.
I co-founded a Christian rock band in the late seventies and played for about fourteen years in various formations of the band. I had given up trying to play with six strings moving to the four on my Bass, which I was far more comfortable with. I played drums for a few years to ‘fill the gap’ while we found a new drummer and on one occasion keyboard!
In 1977 I met my wife, Joanna’ and we were married in 1981, the same year as Charles and Diana. We didn’t invite them as we didn’t get an invitation to theirs but did say they could have a day off as we had when they got married!
As our children grew up I still played in bands and in the music group at church. I also got involved with various projects such as organising a charity concert of ‘Young Messiah’; we had an orchestra, band, choir and some very go soloists and filled Huddersfield Town Hall. I also organised concerts for other people and helped a local Christian band for a while.
I started writing scripts, I had always written songs, after failing to avoid the annual Christmas Sunday School offering. I always cringed at these, as they were fairly embarrassing! One May I offered to write one and put in a couple of songs. This went down very well and I was asked to write another the following year.
I started to write more and more as the kids got older, I was banned from writing songs when they were studying for GCSEs and A’ levels as I was very noisy. I ended up writing a short novel, which is now becoming a series! I also drew on my previous experience by writing a musical ’Strange Days’, which I completed in 2005 after starting it in 2001.
So my background ahs brought me to here. I thought I had so much stuff sitting on my computer and in various places so I decided to have a website done. To date I have three CDs, two and a half short novels, various scripts and monologs, two more CDs in progress and plans for another! Orchestrations and other songs! Everything I do has one common thread, I try and get people to think of God and what He has done for us. As a Christian I believe that Jesus is the Son of God and he died for our sins and then rose again. He wants to set us free for sin and reunite the creation, us, with the creator, God.
So what do I do? What ever I am asked. I am most happy playing and writing for God as this gives a purpose to what I do as it has an eternal meaning.
